KINETIC #4: SPACE/SENSE @
HATCH & VICTORIA BATHS
Kinetic and Vonnegut Collective present SPACE / SENSE - a two-part concert series exploring physical space, spatial perceptions and sensory phenomena, within two very contrasting venues.
The first concert (09/06) at TAKK (a converted shipping container at HATCH, Oxford Road), explores physical restrictions and limitations, but also attempts to create a perception of the opposite - vastness. The programme features two pieces - David Pocknee’s thoroughly entertaining political statement Economics (2010; 2017 version) whereby the landing of thrown objects influences musical decisions, and overcast, a brand new multimedia Kinetic premiere from composer/singer Nina Whiteman. The 30-minute programme is performed three times.
The second concert (03/07) is at VICTORIA BATHS - a disused swimming baths. The programme consists entirely of Kinetic commissions - a performance installation created by Kinetic and Vonnegut Collective, exploring sensory deprivation; a new audio-visual installation by Jordan T. Caylor which manipulates the material of the former, and a brand new work by RNCM PhD composer Bofan Ma in which performers embrace the freedom of a large space and navigate around it - all exploring an extraordinary location.
